Located in the beautifully revitalized heart of downtown York, PA, the York Academy Regional Charter School (YARCS) is a regional charter school founded by three local districts–The School District of the City of York, York Suburban School District and Central York School District. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) Candidate School, York Academy follows the academically rigorous, inquiry-based IB approach to education.
York Academy opened on August 22, 2011 in the historic, pre-Civil War Smyser-Royer building with students in kindergarten, first, and second grades. York Academy will add a grade level each year until 2022 when the school will be a complete K-12 academic institution.
With an unrelenting focus on academic excellence, the York Academy Regional Charter School challenges students in a diverse learning environment which opens doors for growth, opportunity, and global citizenship.
The students of the York Academy Regional Charter School will experience an extraordinary education program through:
- An individualized academic experience, shaped by the International Baccalaureate standard that challenges and prepares them to effectively advance to the next stage of life;
- A respect and appreciation of people from different cultures, religions, ethnic groups, and socio-economic backgrounds;
- An intrinsic desire to always strive to meet the high expectations they have set for themselves no matter what their goals; and
- The confidence to pursue their dreams.
