Academy Information

Founded in 2011, York Academy has grown to educate over 800 diverse students in kindergarten through ninth grade via the rigorous, world-renowned International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. We are located in the beautifully revitalized heart of Downtown York. The Academy is a nonprofit public charter school that is chartered by Central York, York City and York Suburban School Districts. Students from eight other districts are also represented. There is no tuition fee to attend the York Academy, which makes us a unique alternative for families seeking a small school community with challenging academics and innovative arts, music and design/engineering programming. York Academy is the only school in York County – and one of four in the state - authorized to offer both the IB Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes. We are currently pursuing accreditation for the intense Diploma Programme. Students in eleventh and twelfth grade will take college-level coursework in the classroom, obtain credits and meet IB requirements. The Lower School is located in the pre-Civil War Smyser-Royer building and is home to kindergarteners through seventh-graders. In August 2018, we opened a progressive Upper School on the grounds of the former Pennsupreme Building. Students in eighth and ninth grade attend this school. A grade level will be added each year until we are a full K-12 school and graduate the first class of York Academy "Knights" in 2022.
