Calendar Update: Early Dismissal on Monday, April 8

-The York Academy will have an early dismissal on Monday, April 8 because of the solar eclipse. Students will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. - exactly like other early dismissal days.

Since the eclipse will be at its strongest later that afternoon, we do not want to put students at risk of severely damaging their eyes. To support families who would like to watch it safely at home, a limited number of protective glasses are available for $1.00 at both schools.

Send the dollar in an envelope with your child's name on it  - marked solar glasses. The glasses will be placed in that envelope and returned to your child or the teacher. You might want to purchase your own in case they sell out.

We encourage you to ask your child what they're learning in the classroom and check the
NASA website for an overview and safety tips.

Upper School Students to Present Once on This Island

The Upper School musical, Once on This Island, is happening soon! Our students are excited to share this Tony Award-Winning show with you. The dates and times are listed below. Here's a synopsis:

Once on a golden and lush green Caribbean island, a little girl is rescued from a disastrous storm by four gods: Asaka (mother of the Earth), Agwe (god of water), Erzulie (goddess of love), and Papa Ge (demon of death).

Show TimesThe myth told in this breathtaking story is one of joy and sorrow, the aftermath of colonization and isolation, and the triumph of love against all forces. Told with Caribbean rhythms and instruments, Once on This Island is a testament that a beautiful story has the power to inspire and heal all.

Please come to support our talented students!

Students Excel at York County Science & Engineering Fair

StudentsRecently, 21 Upper School students participated in the York County Science & Engineering Fair. We’re thrilled for Neva Kirk-Jadric on being the Senior Division Grand Champion (overall winner). Based on a list of previous winners, Neva is the very first York City student to receive this award.

In addition, Lily Houck submitted two separate projects – another impressive first. Multiple other students placed, and it was our most successful year ever!

Congrats to all of the students and to science teacher, Mrs. Reed. She cares deeply for her students, and with her encouragement and support, they thrive. Without her lead, these accomplishments would not have been possible.
Click here for a list of all the winners and find out about their amazing projects. You'll be impressed!
