During the International Baccalaureate (IB) unit called How We Organize Ourselves, our fourth graders learned about the three branches of government and the voting process. Special thanks goes to John Brenner, former mayor of the City of York and a York Academy parent, for recently sharing a lesson with Mrs. Sharpe’s class.

As a final assessment, the fourth graders held a Candy Bar Campaign. Each class selected a type of candy bar (ex. Snickers, Twix, Kit Kat). The
y created posters, slogans and campaign speeches to encourage fellow Lower School students to vote for their specific candy bars. Fourth graders from each class visited every classroom and presented their speeches, as well. After an all-school vote (K-7), Kit Kat was named the best candy bar at York Academy.
