COVID-19 Response

COVID-19 Update

11/18/2020

Dear York Academy Families:

With the surge of COVID-19 cases, and in anticipation of York County being in the
substantial level of community transmission again on Friday (from November 13-19), we have made the decision to keep our schools closed through the winter break. We know this may be difficult for many of you, but we must follow the guidance from the PA Department of Education to keep our school community as safe as possible.

This means that all students will continue to learn virtually from home through the end of 2020. We will return in-person on Monday, January 4 if York County is back in the moderate level of community transmission. The decision that you made earlier this month regarding your child's learning model will remain the same when we are able to return in-person. If you are unsure of the model you selected (eLearning or in-person), please ask your child's teacher during your student-led conference.

We will continue to support families through our free Grab-and-Go Meal Program. The meals are provided on the days that school is in session and are available for pickup curbside at the Upper School from 12 - 1 pm Families may pick up one breakfast and lunch each day per child (under 18), and they do not have to be students at York Academy. This service is so important because it allows us to help others  and  it brings funds back into our school so we can pay our Food Services team during this challenging time.

I'd like to personally thank you for all you're doing to help your children with their education. We know this situation is not ideal, and look forward to the day when we can be back in school together. We appreciate your support are so glad that you are part of the York Academy family.

Stay safe and healthy,
Angela sugarek

On October 26, 2020, the York Academy Board of Trustees  voted to amend our COVID-19 Phased School Reopening Health and Safety Plan and return to school in-person when York County has been in the moderate level of community transmission for three weeks, based on the chart below and the data from the COVID-19 Early Warning Monitoring System Dashboard. This means that the earliest we will return in-person is January 4, 2021.

Table

The updated plan allows parents who would like their students to return to school (with teachers and instructional assistants) to do so on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Both schools will be closed on Wednesdays so we can deep clean and disinfect the buildings, and all students will complete asynchronous learning activities from home (no Zoom classes).

While we are excited to have students back in the building, school will not be like it was pre-pandemic. Please review the safety protocols that will be in place with this updated plan.

Let's all work together to stop the spread and help our students get back to school as soon as possible. Make sure to follow Health Secretary Dr. Levine's updated order to wear a mask everywhere you go, including when you're around those from different households, even if you're 6 feet apart.
